Calgary Stampede 2009

Normally Lair & I could pass up on the Stampede. Way back when he always got free admission tix - so we would go walk around, but since Quinn's been here/we moved to BC, we haven't been.

This year, at first I was thinking - baa hum bug. Let's save the $ and go to Calloway Park. But then I got to thinking of how much FUN FUN FUN the Stampede always was for me as a KID. I can't take that experience away from Quinn because I'm jaded and cheap! (lol), so last monday, off we went to the Stampede.

We got there shortly before noon. Paid $20 to park and headed straight to the kiddie section. W O W - was Quinn ever excited! First he and I went on the Ferris Wheel, then he went on some Jeeps, helicopter, mini drop of doom, bumper cars, played a midway game and won a little stuffed dog. We needed some food - so off for a corn dog, then it started to rain. Doh! Looked at some horses then went to the hall where they sell stuff. Quinn was so good - we walked through the whole thing! Got some mini doughnuts, ice cream and beer nuts =)

It seemed to have stopped raining so we went on the skyride. The idea was take the ride to the other end of the park so we could walk back and show Quinn all the big rides..... Well, a few things happened... No sooner do our feet lift into the air - it starts to rain again... Meh, not a big deal. We level out, then the team stops for a minute; so we swing a bit, the go forward, again swinging a bit.... Hmmm, well, it seems that Lair isn't so comfortable with his feet not on the ground! Not being a ride person to begin with, this totally sucks - oh, wait - let's turn on the Monsoon rain storm... yep - that's the cherry on top! Not much you can do but cuddle and wait for the slow ride to the other end of the park.

The rain was so crazy! Like flash flood crazy. People ran for shelter so not too many people were on the mid way. We had to walk back to the car on the other side of the park....

So - no point in running... can't avoid puddles, are already soaked (literally ringing out water out of my hoodie and pants), so - make the best of it and PUDDLE JUMP! Man can Lair ever make a big splash! We had a ball! Quinn was thrilled to jump, splash, kick, stand in the water.

It was fun. Rides, junk food, and rain. A perfect Stampede. lol

I can't wait to take him to Calloway park! Perhaps in early August!!! And if he's lucky maybe a few times in August!

The Mighty Quinn is F O U R ! ! ! !

Where does the time go?? It seems like just yesterday I was telling Lair we were pregnant...

... We didn't know if "Jellybean" was a girl or a boy, nor did we care - we just wanted a healthy baby - mind, body & soul, and that we got!

8 Weeks

6 Months

AGE ONE

Such a good kid! Started walking the day after his 1st birthday =) He adjusted well to the move to BC.

1.5 yrs old.

AGE TWO

Wasn't talking yet - had a few words - he spoke "Quinnese" which thankfully, I am fluent in!; he was the Strong silent observer - and SO very smart.

We were devastated when he had his mini-strokes, but after our blessed stay at the BC Children's Hospital, we were happy to bring home a healthy boy. We now deem it to be a Stroke of Genius!

Finally started talking in October 2008 upon our return from 2 weeks in the Mayan Riviera - he loved it! As did we, an amazing trip to celebrate life & family.

2.5 yrs. old

AGE THREE
Finally potty trained 2 months after he turned 3 - woo-hoo!

3.5 yrs old. Back in Alberta, staying with mom. He did so well in the chaos of moving. Again, getting to stay home with Quinn was so amazing!

And now here he is - FOUR! (We still have to go for our annual family photo)...

I am so thankful for his health and am amazed every day by his bright soul. I am so thankful I was able to be home with him for over 3 of his 4 years with us. Time you can not put a price tag on.

He is Mighty indeed. Thanks for taking the time to walk down memory lane with me.

PS - MOM, click on the pics if you want to see a bigger version.=)
